Under The Veil - Veiled Realms Art Challenge

Hi everyone!

I'm happy to share what i've created for my submission to the Veiled Realms Art Challenge.

More details about the challenge: https://cosmos.leartesstudios.com/challenges/veiled-realms-art-challenge

Under The Veil is an environment heavily inspired by Max Bedulenko's concept art piece Ghent. The scene depicts the once beautiful and historical city of Ghent being transformed in an industrial landscape, filled with metal infrastructure. In this timeline, conditions are dire, the atmosphere is heavily polluted and resources are scarce - forcing the citizens to adapt the city's infrastructure to their needs. Amidst this chaos, lack of order has grown increasingly profound. Factions have begun to emerge, each seeking to seize control of the city, though not everyone agrees with their policies.

During this challenge, i've pushed my limits by creating a larger environment, getting more comfortable with building big assets, and developing a complex scene optimized for performance. Because the scene represents an oversized industrial area of a city, i had to rely heavily on a few tileable materials, adding variation through RGBA masks to introduce dirt, rust, edge wear, and color and roughness variation. Vertex painting and decals were also used to provide additional detail and diversity. More information about the techniques i used will be presented in a breakdown later this year.

Many thanks to Leartes Studios for hosting this challenge. Special thanks also to my friends and to communities such as Beyond Extent, Dinusty Empire and CG Network for providing a lot of valuable feedback.
